Independence Day

We went to my grandparents house on Sunday afternoon and ate lunch with them then we got back in the van and drove to my mamaw and papaw's house. We got there in time to help shell the last of the purple hull peas.
Later we tried to get some sleep but Tootsie Roll was in the same room and she would not be quiet. She barked at everything that moved or might move. Melissa finally got her calmed down enough to let us all go to sleep. Personally, I wanted to put her out in the van, but she probably would have barked and kept the neighbors up all night.
I helped mamaw make her cake and I finally got the recipe for her chocolate syrup goo icing. OK, we don't have a name for it so that is what I've named it.
You take:
2 cups of sugar,
1 cup of milk,
1/2 cup of cocoa powder
vanilla flavoring a teaspoon or so
Melt them together. Then bring them to a boil. Stir the boiling liquid so it does not burn or stick and add about a tablespoon of butter and 10 oz of marshmallows. The small kind are the easiest too stir. Make sure the heat is off and stir the butter and marshmallows into the boiling liquid until they are completely melted and blended together.
Take your yellow cake out of the oven and poke holes in it with a clean pen. Then poor the chocolate icing all over it and let it sink into the holes in the cake. Cut and serve when your ready to eat it.
This is the weirdest cake, but it tastes so good.
Courtney was out life guarding at the pool on the 4th of July. I think the swimming pool should have been closed on the 4th. Most people are going to be with their families. Melissa said Courtney sounded just like Bethany used to when she was life guarding. I hope we close the pool early. I'm going to pay them not to swim etc.
We ate at noon and then we stayed about an hour and half longer while we were eating home made ice cream and cake. Mom curled Melissa's hair before we left.
Then we drove back to grandmothers house. Aunt Glenda, and our cousin Stephanie, and her sons Clayton, Roman and Nick were there. They were just finishing lunch when we got there. Aunt Glenda made a blueberry cobbler out of grandmother's fresh blueberries. The boys had picked them earlier.
Mom gave Stephanie a make over with all her curlers and Avon make up. Then we went out for an exercise walk, before we ate BBQ for supper. We took everyone to the park with us. Dad stayed with grandmama and granddaddy.
We stayed long enough to see some fireworks, before we went home. That is what our Independence Day was like, driving and seeing relatives.

Gavin is back now and he is so big! I did not expect him to grow so much in one week. I'm taking pictures of him this week, but all I have is black and white film. I want some color film so we can see the color of his sweet blue eyes.
Aunt Glenda, Stephanie and the boys are supposed to come over today for lunch so I can get some pictures of them too. I forgot to bring my camera with me on the 4th.
